Majid Al-Remaihi is an award-winning artist and filmmaker from Doha. His short film “And Then They Burn the Sea” was Qatar’s first film at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2021 and went on to win best film at Vienna Shorts and the Silver Tanit at Carthage, as well as screening at festivals such as Palm Springs. It became Qatar’s first Oscars nomination. 

He was named among Fast Company Middle East’s Most Creative People in Business in 2023. His work focuses on unravelling the complexity of historical narratives and their reconstructions in the Arabian Gulf.

Most recently, he was an assistant curator for “Your Ghosts Are Mine — Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices,” a cinema exhibition highlighting the work of over 40 filmmakers and video artists at the Palazzo Franchetti coinciding with the 2024 Venice Bienniale. He has been a film programmer for the Doha Film Institute since 2019.
