Karim Aïnouz

Visual Artist and Filmmaker

Karim Aïnouz is an award-winning filmmaker and visual artist.

His directorial debut came with “Madame Satã” at Un Certain Regard, Cannes Film Festival, in 2002. His other works include “Firebrand” (In Competition, Cannes, 2023); “Mariner of the Mountains” (Official Selection, Cannes, 2021); “Nardjes A.” (Panorama, Berlin, 2020); “Central Airport THF” (Amnesty Prize, Berlin, 2018); “Futuro Beach” (Berlinale, 2014); “The Silver Cliff” (Directors’ Fortnight, Cannes, 2011); “I Travel Because I Have To, I Come Back Because I Love You” (Orizontti, Venice, 2009); and “Love for Sale” (Orizontti, Venice, 2006). “Invisible Life” won the Un Certain Regard Prize at Cannes in 2019 and has been the recipient of several international prizes.

Mr. Aïnouz is also a screenwriter, tutor and member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. “Motel Destino” is his latest feature.
